CROWDED CLOSET?

Is your morning catch cry..."I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR"?
Maybe it is time for a wardrobe makeover - AND YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF. A few simple organisation ideas will allow for better access and more wear out of the items you have.

WHERE DO I START?

Immediately set aside clothing that you have NOT worn in the past five years. If the clothing is still in good condition but no longer fits you or no longer suits your lifestyle, consider selling on ebay, have a clothes swap party, pass on to a friend, give to charity.... If the material is too worn or damaged think about cutting up the fabric into squares for cleaning rags.

DONT DO!

WHATEVER you do, DONT mourn for that blouse or dress which now looks soooooo fabulous on your younger sister..friend....friend of a friend!!!! YOU got rid of it because : IT DID NOT LOOK LIKE THAT ON YOU!!!!

WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

COLOUR &  ITEM SORTING is a VERY important next step.

For each category of clothing, sort in colour schemes from white to black (including patterns).
Categories could consist of : short sleeved tops, long sleeved tops, jumpers, jackets, shorts, pants, skirts and dresses.
When you become even more savvy at this exercise, another method could be to categorise in seasons, workwear/leisure, day/evening.

AM I DONE?

NOT QUITE... You now have the PERFECT opportunity for a wardrobe inventory. Think about the coming season. Look at what you already have and think about a few items to purchase that might "refresh" what is already at your disposal. Now is the time to acknowledge that you may have a great variety of pants and perhaps a lack of suitable tops. It may come to your attention that a particular colour is predominant, now that you have colour sorted everything. Your new purchase goals could be to add different hues.

Let me know if you test out this technique. How did it go for you? What did you learn?

ONE MORE TIP : If you are a bit reluctant to give away your gear for good, in fear that you may need it, even though you haven't worn the item for a VERY LONG TIME or not at all!!! Store the clothing in a bag and THEN after a period of time, dispose of as you wish or return to your own wardrobe.

Have your say...
