OOPS I DID IT AGAIN

WINTER WARDROBE WORRIES

When I decide to do a wardrobe "clean out" I tend to get a bit over-enthusiastic. Of course, unfortunately, I usually don't realise that until it's a little too late. My favs get tossed in the direction of friends, my sister (why do my clothes always look so great on her that I want them back?) or THE SALVO's (re: Faye De Lanty).

A couple of weeks ago, while we were still enjoying the Aussie sunshine, I culled some winter gear in a frenzy because...well...I hadn't worn any of it for a whole season. (Duh, it was SUMMER). NOW, I find myself scrapping around for clothes to wear as a cold snap has finally crept in to reveal a particularly cool Autumn - heaven knows how cold winter is going to get.

The funny thing is, I had a stash of money to spend ready for winter.
Did you see the word "HAD"?
I spent said money stash on a flimsy dress and high heels because it made me feel good at the time!

ANYWAY - I haven't got my "winter direction" sorted yet. So I'm going to share a few simple tricks that are going to get me by until I sort myself out.

DRESS ONE:
Did I mention I'm into dresses again? I'm an all or nothing girl, at the moment my crush is THE DRESS.
I have a LEONA EDMISTON dress currently collecting dust in my wardrobe, well, that was until I re-invented it. I'm not usually into patterns and was starting to feel a bit "GRANNY" in it too.
WHAT I DID: I added a boat neck, long sleeved CUE fine wool jumper underneath. To balance out the heavier look, I teamed this up with a sleek bootie style heel.
THE EFFECT: The total look is much edgier and more interesting. Black stockings can also be worn underneath. Green ones would be cool too, if you're feeling daring!

DRESS TWO:
My favourite WISH green dress. I ALWAYS get compliments when I wear this dress...and best of all it's NOT BLACK. (I tend to wear a lot of black) I'm not ready to put it away just yet - a girl loves to get attention.
WHAT I DID: I added a boat neck, long sleeved CUE fine wool jumper underneath. (can you see the pattern happening here?) To balance out the heavier look, I added a black belt and some heavy duty chunky boots.
THE EFFECT: The total look is Rock Chick meets Girly Girl. Once again, black stockings can be worn underneath.

DRESS THREE:
Ahhhh, this one IS actually a recent purchase. The fabric is heavier and more geared towards the cooler weather.
WHAT I DID: I added the same black jumper underneath, accessorised with my trusty Japanese tie belt and low heeled tie up boots.
THE EFFECT: The bright splash of yellow is toned down, but I'm able to wear colour now!

MIX IT UP
Take a look at your own wardrobe and think of the possibilities. It's all about the ART of mixing different items together. You will surprise yourself once you get started. Different combinations can make an overall outfit more casual or more dressy. (Think, denim jacket for a casual vibe and then a dark blazer for a dressy approach.)
The way you accessorise with jewellery, scarfs and styles of shoe can have a dramatic effect on the final look.
Don't forget your choice of hairstyle and makeup go a long way too.

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO HAVE A PLAY.
I would love to see some of your looks, send them in on the reply section at the bottom of this blog.
