MY LIFE IN SCENT
Fragrance has always played a major role in my life. Someone once said "You are not fully dressed without adding perfume". I must admit, I do feel like I am missing something if I don't add that little dash of perfume before I head out the door. It's a bit like forgetting to put your watch or earrings on.
On a recent shopping jaunt, whizzing past the DJ's fragrance counters, I realised how important our sense of smell is...... how a particular fragrance can take you back to a special moment or two. It prompted me to look at FIVE particularly special fragrances that have defined periods of my life.
1. NINA RICCI - L'AIR DU TEMPS
My first ever grown up fragrance as a young teen, bought for me by my Uncle & Aunt. Little did I realise at the time that L'air Du Temps was also to become my Wedding Fragrance, very generously bought for me by my co-workers many years later (along with some VERY BEAUTIFUL lingerie).
The gorgeous bottle features two doves perched on top of an elegantly twisted base. The fragrance was launched originally in 1948. A feminine evening inspired scent with hints of gardenia, rose, carnation & sandalwood. My own daughter has recently discovered that she also enjoys wearing this scent.
2. GIORGIO - BEVERLY HILLS
The ultimate in eighties sophistication... I used to wear this fragrance to uni. Looking back now, I must have nearly knocked everyone out with it's heady strong scent of orange flower, bergamot, tuberose and sandalwood. The perfume was launched in the 1980's through VOGUE MAGAZINE in the first ever scented strip form. I also loved the classic yellow and white stripes on the packaging which is synonymous with all things Giorgio.
3. ISSEY MIYAKE - L'EAU D' ISSEY
I particularly enjoyed this lighter style of fragrance and wore it mostly when I became a mum. The scent is a romantic blend of bergamot, tuberose and Lilly of the Valley. Interestingly, the fragrance notes are similar to previous perfume choices but are a lot more toned down.
4. DOLCE & GABBANA - THE ONE
A great evening fragrance for the ultimate DIVA. I wore this one on our "special" weekends in town without the kiddies. When I wore this fragrance, I felt like a WOMAN (enough said). The scent is tempting and modern with a touch of the classics and oriental florals.
5. MARC JACOBS - LOLA
Mum picked this one out for me a few years back. It is a flirtatious/playful warm floral fragrance, consisting of fuchsia peony, pink peppercorn, pear & ruby red grapefruit. I loved LOLA soooooo much that I practically bathed in it ( no, I ACTUALLY did bath in it come to think of it - I had the bath foam too). Lola became the SIGNATURE of all things ME! I even have the solid key chain perfume strapped to my handbag.
